Though born in Mexico, Aguiniga spent most of her life in the United States. Her work draws upon her upbringing as a binational citizen in her artistic practice, and uses traditional craft materials to make her work.
Aguinigaโs piece Nopal examines her binational identity as well as her family and motherhood. the work is created from earth, plants,animal, and human materials, each firmly rooted in connections to aguiniga;s home, history, and heritage.
